Homeless Man Threatens To Kill People With Shotgun In South Jersey: Police

A homeless man threatening to shoot people dead was arrested by police in South Jersey.

On Sunday, June 5 at 1:13 p.m. Berlin Township Police received a 9-1-1 call that a man armed with a weapon was walking on Cooper Road toward Route 73. The caller stated "he had a shotgun in his backpack and was going to kill people," police said.

The man was identified as Lewis O. Tilton III, who was homeless, police said.

Berlin Township Police observed a subject matching the description, walking on Cooper Road, but lost sight of him near Industrial Drive after he ran into the woods.

Surrounding towns and several agencies were called in to assist in locating the subject. Berlin Twp. K-9, Voorhees K-9, Evesham Twp. K-9, Gloucester Twp. K-9 and Cumberland County K-9 units all assisted with K-9 tracks. The New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit was also called in for air support along with Voorhees Twp. and Pine Hill PD drone units.

The suspect ultimately was apprehended by Waterford Township Police Officers and turned over to Berlin Township Police.
